Monaco yacht charter: what does a week cost? (2027 season)

Cristal, Split, CroatiaCristal · Split, Croatia
The straight answer

The Mediterranean motor-yacht listings we read run from €23,000 a week for a 20–30 m yacht to €148,000 for a 30–45 m yacht, on published season rates before extras; not all of them are based in Monaco. One named Monaco-based example, a 35 m yacht for 10 guests, lists €118,000 to €148,000 a week. On top come the APA, tax on the charter fee and an optional crew tip, so an illustrative July week on that yacht comes to about €244,200.

What the listings show

The figures below come from the listings in our Charter Price Index, read 29 October 2026. They are published asking rates, not quotes, and the listings do not all state which year they are for. Treat them as a snapshot for planning.

The named Monaco example is shown separately, because it is one yacht rather than a sample:

A yacht's length does not tell you how many guests she may carry. Her certification sets that, usually up to 12 overnight guests on a commercial yacht; the listing gives the figure for each yacht.

What is included, and what is extra

The charter fee pays for the yacht and her crew. Most yachts on the Riviera are offered plus expenses, meaning the running costs are paid on top:

  • APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance): an advance the captain spends on fuel, food, drink and port fees, reconciled with receipts at the end. Bespoke Yacht Charter (2026) gives 30–40% on the Riviera; Riviera Living's listing asks for 35%. See how APA works.
  • Tax on the charter fee. Ocean Independence (November 2025) describes Monaco as inside the French VAT area, with 20% applying to a charter handed over there. Visiting an Italian port does not by itself change that; how the charter is taxed depends on the contract and where the yacht is handed over.
  • Crew gratuity, at your discretion; Bespoke Yacht Charter gives 10–15% for the Riviera.
  • Fuel moves the APA more than anything else. A fast run to St-Tropez and back uses far more than slow days along the coast.

Two illustrative one-week budgets from Monaco

Case 1: 10 guests, a week in July, Riviera Living, departing Port Hercule

LineBasisAmount
Charter feePublished high-season rate€148,000
APA35% of the charter fee (listing)€51,800
Tax on the charter fee20%€29,600
Crew gratuity10% of the charter fee€14,800
Illustrative budget€244,200

That is about €24,420 a guest, before flights and transfers.

Case 2: 6 guests, a 20–30 m motor yacht at the middle of the listings

LineBasisAmount
Charter feeMiddle of the 20–30 m listings€45,875
APA30% of the charter fee€13,762.50
Tax on the charter fee20%€9,175
Crew gratuity10% of the charter fee€4,587.50
Illustrative budget€73,400

In both cases the APA is an advance, not a final cost: what is not spent comes back, and a heavy fuel week may need a top-up.

Grand Prix week costs more

Event weeks are priced separately. For the 2027 Grand Prix (racing 4–6 June 2027), the port authority charges a berth fee for any stay in Zone Sud between Monday 31 May and Monday 7 June 2027. For a 34.50–39.49 m yacht it is €63,361.20 on the standard tariff with VAT, or €59,161 on the eligible commercial yacht tariff, with the lounge-package VAT included (SEPM brochure, October 2026). Our Monaco Grand Prix guide has the full table.

What to ask your broker

  1. Which year and season is this rate for, and which weeks count as high season?
  2. What APA percentage does the owner require, and what did similar weeks spend?
  3. What is the tax on the charter fee, and on what basis is it worked out for my route?
  4. Is there a delivery fee to start somewhere other than the home port?
  5. How many guests is the yacht certified to carry overnight?

When this is not the right choice

  • You want quiet anchorages and long swims. A Monaco start spends days on a busy, built-up coast; Corsica or Sardinia may suit you better, though a delivery fee may apply.
  • Your budget is tight. In our worked example for the smallest listed yacht, the APA, tax and tip bring the week to about €73,400, before any event premium; other small yachts will differ.

Questions people ask

Is tax charged on a yacht charter starting in Monaco?

Ocean Independence describes Monaco as inside the French VAT area, with 20% applying to a charter handed over there. How your charter is taxed depends on the contract and where the yacht is handed over, so ask for the operator's written calculation.

How much is APA on a Monaco charter?

Bespoke Yacht Charter gives 30–40% of the charter fee on the Riviera, and the 35 m yacht in our example asks for 35%. It pays for fuel, food, drink and port fees, and is reconciled with receipts at the end of the week.

How many guests can a yacht from Monaco take?

Each yacht's certification sets the number, usually up to 12 overnight guests on a commercial yacht. The 35 m yacht in our example takes 10 guests with 8 crew; the listing gives the figure for each yacht.

Do you tip the crew on top of APA?

Yes. The tip is separate from the APA and at your discretion; Bespoke Yacht Charter gives 10–15% of the charter fee for the Riviera.
